HOW TO KEEP YOUR TWIST OUT FRESH AFTER THE FIRST DAY

HOW TO KEEP YOUR TWIST OUT FRESH AFTER THE FIRST DAY

We’ve all done it. Perfected our twist out only to notice that it’s far from perfect on the second day. It doesn’t matter how much product you’ve used or how small your twists initially were, it just doesn’t seem to stick after the first day or two and it can be really frustrating. What if we told you, however, that there is a way to make those Insta-worthy twists last for more than one day?

To help you get that picture perfect style past day one, here’s what we suggest:

Do your initial twist out on wet hair.

Although doing a twist out on dry hair will give you more length, if you twist while your hair is wet, it will set better. You can pair Aunt Jackie’s Oh So Clean Moisturizing & Softening Shampoo with the In Control Moisturizing & Softening Conditioner for best results. Don’t forget to detangle with the Knot On My Watch Instant Detangling Therapy before the next step.

Be sure to moisturize well while twisting initially.

When you are twisting your hair after your wash, be sure to thoroughly moisturize it. This is where the LOC method – using a liquid (or leave-in), oil, and cream to moisturize – will come in handy. Try using Aunt Jackie’s Quench Moisture Intensive Leave-In Conditioner, the Nourish My Hair Flaxseed & Monoi oil, and finishing the method off with the Seal It Up Hydrating Sealing Butter.

Only untwist when your hair is completely dry.

Untwisting your hair too early while it’s still damp or wet will cause your hair to frizz and ultimately lack the definition that you desire. Be sure that all product has settled into your strands before unraveling your twists.

After it’s untwisted and you style as desired, avoid touching it.

Constantly touching your hair after you’ve styled it can cause a number of problems for your mane. Breakage, frizz, definition elimination and dryness are some of them and who really wants that?

Be sure to moisturize at night.

When you’re on your way to bed, don’t forget to moisturize your hair before you wrap it up. Applying a bit of the Aunt Jackie’s Soft All Over Multi-Purpose Oil or spritzing your hair with a water and leave-in conditioner (Quench Moisture Intensive Leave-In Conditioner) mixture are good options.

Use the pineapple method.

Retwisting your hair every night to keep them fresh the next day can be a daunting task. Instead, try the pineapple method – which requires you to place your hair in a scrunchie at the crown (or toward the front) of your head. If your hair is shorter, you can try mini pineapples to keep your hair in tact. If you’re not into the pineapple method, you can always retwist your hair, but in larger twists, to maintain your style.

Protect your hair while you sleep.

Don’t forget to protect your hair with a silk or satin bonnet or scarf while your sleep to avoid frizz – even if you have the right pillowcase to sleep on.

Re-moisturize in the morning.

In the morning, after you’ve taken down your pineapples, be sure to re-moisturize as you did before you went to bed and then shape your hair in the desired style.
