6 Winter Hair Tips You'll Love
With the winter months swiftly approaching, it’s important to remember that just as your wardrobe needs to switch up, so does your hair routine. Though there are plenty of products and parts of your routine that can (and should) stay year-round, as each season shifts, there are certain changes that you need to apply in order to keep your hair at its best. And to be honest, they’re easier and much more simple than you think.
Here are six winter hair care tips you should keep in mind this season.
Trim your hair regularly.
In order to keep your hair as healthy as possible, it’s imperative that you get trims regularly. Though the time span is often debated, a good rule of thumb would be anywhere between four and six weeks or when you notice an increase in knots and/or split ends.
Wear a satin-lined cap when you head outside.
Just as keeping your hair in a protective style can help it survive against the harsh weather, keeping it covered up with a satin or silk-lined covering in the colder months can help, too. Be sure to moisturize with something like our Quench — Moisture Intensive Leave-In Conditioner first to keep your hair from looking dull once you take the covering off.
Stray away from taking steaming hot showers.
Although hot showers may be your go-to during colder months, keep in mind that hot water can strip the moisture that your tresses will so desperately need during this season. As a result, it will become brittle and more prone to breakage. If you’re not washing your hair while in the shower, be sure to place your hair in a shower cap or waterproof bonnet to keep it from drying out. If you are washing it though—presumably with our Power Wash clarifying shampoo and the RESCUED! conditioner—be sure to wash with lukewarm water and follow with a cool rinse.
Be sure to dry your hair fully before leaving the house.
You may be used to rushing through your morning, but if you’re looking to keep your hair at its healthiest this winter season, one thing you won’t want to rush through is the hair drying process. Wet hair is more vulnerable to damage than dry hair, so walking outside into the cold weather with wet hair can cause your tresses to freeze and break off.
Implement oil treatments.
If hot oil treatments aren’t in your hair care routine quite yet, this winter will be the perfect time to add them in. Adding a hot oil treatment with any one of our Natural Growth Oil Blends will not only add moisture and shine, but help to eliminate frizz, split ends, and combat dry scalp and styling damage.
Commit yourself to applying a hair masque once a week.
Though deep conditioning after washing is important to replenish what your hair needs, hair masques are great during the winter months because they go deeper than your regular deep conditioner. Hair masques can target specific needs for your hair, reverse damage, re-hydrate your mane, and much more. But, if you’re not sure where to start, Butter Fusions Collection offers five different masques to suit your needs.
