We’re sure you’ve heard great things about diffusers, but do you actually know what they do and how to use them? Here’s a quick guide on why you should be diffusing your hair and how to do it.
It’s used to dry your hair without adding frizz.
Unlike your regular blow dryer settings, diffusers are designed to dry your hair gently without leaving it reduced in moisture and filled with frizz. As long as you keep it on low or medium heat when drying, you’ll keep your curls in good health.
Though it may be tempting, you shouldn’t touch your hair while diffusing.
Although there are plenty of videos and Instagram posts showing those in the curly community touching their hair while going through the diffusing process, you should not be doing this. As like with any other style that you are doing on your natural hair, the more your fingers touch your curls, coils or waves, the harder it is to avoid frizzing things up.
Do not dry your hair entirely using the diffuser.
Using a diffuser to completely dry your hair may seem like the right thing to do, but there’s actually an easier (and more beneficial) way of handling things. After you complete your wash day cycle using products like our Power Wash Intense Moisture Clarifying Shampoo the Rescued! Thirst Quenching Recovery Conditioner and the Ice Curls Glossy Curling Jelly, try letting your hair air dry about 40 to 50 percent of the way. Doing this will help cut down the complete drying time. Tilt your hair side to side — spending about 10 to 20 seconds on each side and section — and move the diffuser around. Diffuse your hair until it’s about 80 to 90 percent dry and let the hair air dry for the remaining of the time.
If you’re looking for volume, add a mousse into your styling routine.
When used on its own, a mousse is designed to add volume to your hair. So when you use our Frizz Patrol Anti-Poof Twist & Curl Setting Mousse with a diffuser, it will create an even more volumouness mane. After drying, fluff at your roots to help add even more volume.
All diffusers aren’t created equally.
Just because a product serves the same purpose, it doesn’t mean it can do the job the same way. When you’re looking for the perfect diffuser, be sure to get an attachment that can easily glide through your roots and one that has a cold shot button as a feature.
