Twist outs have easily become one of the go-to staples in the curly community and rightfully so. Although most twist-outs can last for multiple days on end, there are times when you may want to stretch it just a little longer. So, whether you’re looking for ways to keep your twist out fresh after day one or how to give it life after day five, here are four ways to keep it cute and cut down on time.
Take it up (or down) a notch.
High and low puffs are popular styles on their own, but if you’re looking for a way to revamp an old twist out, these styles can be useful for that, too. Just brush your hair into position (high or low), add some moisture — like our Butter Creme Intensive Moisture Sealant — and secure with your accessory of choice. Don’t forget to lay your edges with the Tame My Edges Smoothing Gel.
Add some pins.
Whether you want to create a faux hawk look or want to hold on to the definition that one side of your hair has, utilizing pins can help with that. You can also find some decorative pins to take the style you have in mind to the next level. Using our Curl La La Defining Curl Custard can also help moisturize and smooth your hair into place as you create.
Re-twist in bigger sections.
It’s no secret that re-twisting your entire head each night before bed is daunting and redundant — especially if you have a lot of hair or want to make them as small as you did the first time for maximum definition. Instead of taking an hour or more to twist your entire head the same way you did initially, try re-twisting in chunkier sections. By doing this, you’ll still be able to avoid frizz and get definition, but you won’t spend as much time.
Use a blending method.
Similar to the above, this method requires you to retwist, but not quite your entire head. Section off the parts of your hair that get the most attention when wearing a twist out. This usually includes a portion of the crown of your head, right above your ears, the areas near where you’re choosing to wear your part and your nape. Apply the Quench — Moisture Intensive Leave-In and an oil like our Soft All Over Multi-Purpose Oil on those sections and retwist with a few twists.
For the remainder of your hair, you can either retwist in bigger sections to avoid frizz or leave out. Once you untwist your main focus point twists, you will be able to blend the style together with the hair you either left out or twisted in big sections.
